How Sentinel Actually
Governs Your AI Output

What is an AI brand intelligence system?

An AI brand intelligence system is a structured layer that sits between your brand and every AI tool your team uses, so an AI tool doesn’t have to be re-briefed on your brand from scratch every time someone opens a new chat. Sentinel is Essential’s version of this: a set of structured files, built from over 900 data points across 35 or more proprietary knowledge components, that load into any AI platform your team already uses, including Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.

That’s a different thing from an AI writing tool. A writing tool generates text. A governance system decides whether that text is allowed to sound the way it does before it goes anywhere, and it does that consistently, without a person re-explaining the brand every time.

Why a founding story isn’t the same as a working system

If you’ve read how Sentinel came about, you know the problem it was built to solve: AI content produced without governance sounds generic, technically correct but completely off-brand, and it gets worse the more people on your team use AI independently. What that story doesn’t cover is how the system actually holds together. That’s a fair question to want answered before you buy something, so here’s the shape of it, without handing over the mechanics themselves.

Six layers, one job each

Sentinel is built from six layers, each answering a different question an AI tool would otherwise have to guess at:

Company Foundations. The stable strategic core. It never appears directly in anything Sentinel produces, but it sets the ceiling everything else works beneath.

Brand Identity. Who you are, what you sell, and how you sound and look.

Brand Standards. Decides whether something sounds like you, checked against a level of specific criteria most brand guidelines never bother to define.

Brand Protection. The non-negotiables: what can never be claimed, implied, or exposed, regardless of how good it would sound otherwise.

Data & Insights. Keeps the other layers grounded in what’s actually happening in your market right now, not what was true when the brand guidelines were last written.

AI & Search Visibility. Structures content so AI platforms like Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot actually surface and cite it, not just so a human reader finds it clear.

When two of these pull in different directions, and they sometimes do, Sentinel has a built-in way to decide which one wins. That’s the difference between a governance system and a style guide: a style guide has no answer for genuine conflicts, so the decision falls to whoever’s under deadline pressure that day. Sentinel’s doesn’t.

What this actually looks like when partners are involved

This is where AI governance stops being a marketing-team problem and becomes a channel problem. Your channel partners are already producing AI-assisted content on your behalf: co-branded emails, social posts, campaign copy pulled from a Campaign in a Box and rewritten by whichever AI tool a partner’s marketing person happens to use. Most of them have no visibility into your brand rules at all, which is exactly how you end up with twenty resellers describing the same product twenty different ways.

Sentinel is built to be adopted by partner organisations as well as by the vendor. The same governance that keeps your own team’s output consistent can keep a partner’s AI-assisted content consistent too, without your team having to review every social post a reseller publishes.

What changes once it’s in place

Every piece of content Essential produces has to clear a defined quality bar before it goes out, checked automatically rather than relying on a person to catch problems after the fact. Sentinel applies that same discipline to whatever your team, or your partners, produce.

Which tier is right for you?

Sentinel comes in three tiers. Core gives you the brand layer only, for teams who want to run their own AI tools with governance in place. Pro adds the content Skills on top, for teams who want structured production support as well as the brand layer. Managed Service adds Essential’s own team running content production for you, brand layer, Skills and delivery all included.

Ready to see it in practice?

If you’re evaluating how to keep AI output on-brand across your team and your partners, Sentinel is available from a brand-only layer you run yourself through to a fully managed service.
